Chess is a Teacher of Many Lessons.

Some people see chess as just another board game. In fact, chess has an incredible and unparalleled history. It’s a game that evolved for nearly 15 centuries; first out of India, then through Persia and into Asia and Western Europe. From Chaturanga to Shatranj, chess was refined over hundreds of years, like a stone being smoothed by the ocean. No matter where you go in the world, chess is instantly recognizable. It is an absorbing and game of pure skill. It’s a game that takes a moment to learn, and a lifetime to understand.

The chess board has tremendous learning potential for young minds. Spatial thinking, complex reasoning, pattern recognition. You can use the chessboard to teach mathematical concepts. Arithmetic, exponential growth, symmetry, writing, probability and creativity.

The game itself teaches patience, grace and sportsmanship. That’s why chess is an integral part of the Push Academy curriculum.

Push Academy is currently offering an afterschool Math and Chess enrichment program.

Push Academy teaches kids radical creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. What better way to get children to embrace the game of chess than to get them to embody the chess pieces themselves. The first Push Academy chess performance was held in March 2021. The performance was a proof of concept: That five- and six- year olds are capable of learning and acting out complex roles, complete with subtlety and humor. Check out the full performance here.
